Awarding ceremony for ‘What is Thalassemia?’ competition to honor the participants and the supporters.
Under the patronage of the wife of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Advisor to the Head of State, SheikhSheikhaBintSaif Al Nahyan, Chair person of Emirates Thalassemia Society and in the gracious presence of Her Highness SheikhaShammaBintSultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan.The ceremony unveiled this year’s participation of ‘What Thalassemia?’ 2014 – 2015 competition which sawtough competition amongst the students which exceeded all expectations and creativity barriers.This year Emirates Thalassemia Society took the competition to a new, innovative level in order to continue the highly active Thalassemia awareness campaign amongst all segments of the UAE community.This competition has also provided an efficient platform to achieve our goal towards creating a UAE society free of new Thalassemia cases by targeting young minds in universities, schools, colleges, institutes and community members by inviting them to create the best social media pagethrough instagram, Twitter or Facebook. Innovation and excellent methods were used to spread awareness to the UAE community by gathering big number of followers in a short period of less than 5 months.The highly anticipated awarding ceremony witnessed the presence of more than 500 guests from the participating schools and universities including school principals, deans of universities and supervisors.This competition which has been running successfully since 2006, has greatly reduced the incidence of new born cases of Thalassemia in UAE. Her Highness SheikhaShammaBint Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan awardedthe winners and participation of the competition as well as the Society’s strategic partners who have contributed to the success of the competition. Schools, universities and institute students were officially encouraged to partakein the competition by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Ministry of Education, Council of Abu Dhabi Education Council and Knowledge and Human Development Authority.Her Highness also honored the respected competition juryfrom Thalassemia Center-Dubai,Ministry of Education and supporting media journalists and the local press for their extended support. Al Aweer School was also awarded for adding the entertainment quotient which colorfully highlighted the ceremony. Thewinners and participants also presented their excellent works in the three categories of Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook in the exhibition organized by the society on the same day.
Society also announced the surprise winners later that day by introducing new categories of awards like for the best concept, highest number of followers and the best innovative logo.MrsKhalidaKhamas, CEO and Executive Secretary of Emirates Thalassemia Societyexpressed her sheer pleasure as a outcome of very aggressive competition where the outcome showed clearly the efficiency and success of social media in health sectorwhere the total reached to 28,064 followers in record short time.
MrsKhalida also emphasized in her speech that the Emirates Thalassemia Society is making strenuous efforts to support the UAE thalassemia and to support awareness programs to reduce the spread of the disorderby collaboratingwith different fraternities in order to overcome their issues and contribute towards providing excellent services to the patients equally.
