Emirates Thalassemia Society organized a brainstorming session aiming to create a database of UAE Thalassemia patients to facilitate active communications
Under the prestigious patronage of the wife of His Highness Dr/ Sheikh Sultan Bin KhalifaBin Zayed Al Nahyan, Adviser to the Head of State SheikhaSheikhaBintSaif Al Nahyan, Chair Person of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Thalassemia Society organized a brainstorming session which aimed to create a database of all the Thalassemia patients in the country to facilitate communicationsto reach out to them to support them in an orderly manner.
This database will also intend to provide provisions of jobs for UAE Thalassemia patients and provide treatment services to patients in Thalassemia centers with alternate shifts in order to provide blood transfusions for patients at any time to suite their work or study commitments.It also aimed to make the transfusion and treatment services free for the patients in some of the hospitals in UAE.
The attendees of the brain storming session also recommended continuingthe ongoing project of encouraging premarital tests for Thalassemia for the post-secondary school students to avoid the birth of new cases. The society’s perception of a Thalassemia patient needs to be improved with an instilled trust in all aspects and to continue the Society’s objectiveto support the patients psychologically through community participation programs created especially for the patients and organize regular meet ups with the patients two to three times a year to improve communications and offer better support services for thalassemia patients. They also advised to initiate in more branches of the Society around UAE.
The activce brainstorming session also brought up concepts like appointing a representative for happiness in the Society to spread the hope, trust and happiness, as per the Government initiations, amongst the patients.
The meeting was organized in order to develop the services provided by the Societyto Thalassemia patients and update them to reach out to their highest levels of satisfaction in the state levels by the Thalassemia patients themselves.
The brainstorming session called “We gather you today….. to build a happier tomorrow” was attended by the parents of patients to learn about their expectations for our services that may be available in the future and contribute to the alleviation of the suffering of their patients and to increase their quality of life.
The session took place in the presence of Abdul BasetMohdMerdas, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Emirates Thalassemia Society, Board members, and media presenter Manal Ahmed- Thalassemia Ambassadorin addition to 80 people including thalassemia patients, specialist doctors,social workers and voting members.
The attendees were divided into ten discussion panels where each panel included two patients, a parent, a doctor, a Board Member , a social worker and a voting member.
KhalidaKhamas, Member of the Board, CEO and Executive Secretary of Emirates Thalassemia Society and the Head of the Organizing Committee in Emirates Thalassemia Society wisely noted thatthe Society will continue to struggle even harder in order to support the UAE Thalassemia patients in the best way and provide a high quality of life for them by all physical means to make all the UAE patients happy!
